Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about online therapy, how it works, costs, confidentiality, and getting started.

What qualifications and experience do you have? +

I'm a fully accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (BABCP), certified EMDR specialist, and trained Couples Therapist with 8+ years of clinical experience. I also hold advanced certifications in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS). I maintain ongoing professional development and adhere to the highest standards of ethical practice and confidentiality. Learn more about my background →

How long are therapy sessions and how often should I come? +

Sessions range between 60-90 minutes depending on your needs and the work we're doing together. Most clients benefit from weekly sessions, though frequency can be adjusted based on your goals and progress. Some clients start with weekly sessions and eventually move to bi-weekly or monthly maintenance sessions as they progress. We'll discuss the optimal schedule during your initial consultation.

What is your cancellation and rescheduling policy? +

I request 24 hours advance notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice may result in a charge for the missed session. I understand that life happens unexpectedly—simply let me know as soon as possible if you need to change your appointment.

Do you offer NHS or private therapy? What about insurance? +

I provide private therapy services. I work with several UK insurance providers including Bupa, AXA, Cigna, and Aviva. Many private health insurance plans cover therapy sessions, and I can often help with insurance claims and paperwork. During your free initial consultation, we'll discuss all payment options, insurance coverage, and what costs may be involved in your mental health treatment.

Is therapy confidential? What about privacy and data protection? +

Confidentiality is fundamental to therapy. Everything you share with me is strictly confidential and protected under UK mental health law and GDPR regulations. Limited legal exceptions apply only to cases involving imminent danger, abuse, or court-ordered disclosure. I'll explain these boundaries clearly during our first session so you understand exactly how your information is protected.

How does online therapy work and is it secure? +

I conduct all sessions via secure, GDPR-compliant video platforms that encrypt your information and protect your privacy. You'll receive a private link to join your session from home or any quiet location. Online therapy delivered via secure video provides professional support with the added benefit of flexibility and convenience. No special software or complicated setup is required.

What issues do you specialise in treating? +

I specialise in treating trauma, childhood trauma, PTSD, birth trauma, relationship OCD, low self-esteem and self-confidence issues, depression, relationship and couples difficulties, and life transitions. I work with adults of all ages and am trained in multiple therapeutic approaches to address your specific needs and goals. If you have a concern not listed, please reach out—I may still be able to help.

Do you see international clients? +

Yes, I welcome clients from around the world. My online therapy services are available to international clients outside of the USA and Canada due to legal and regulatory requirements specific to those countries. If you're based elsewhere and interested in working together, I'd be happy to discuss how we can support your mental health journey.

What do I need to join an online therapy session? +

You'll need a device with internet access (computer, tablet, or smartphone), a quiet, private space where you can talk freely, and a stable internet connection. I'll send you a secure video link before each session. No special software or apps are required—just click the link and connect. It's as simple as that. A headset can be helpful but isn't necessary.

Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy? +

Yes. Research shows that online therapy is equally effective as in-person therapy for most conditions including anxiety, depression, and trauma. The therapeutic relationship—which is the most important factor in therapy success—is just as strong in video sessions. The key difference is convenience and accessibility, not effectiveness. Many clients prefer the comfort and flexibility of therapy from home.

How do I get started with therapy? What's your consultation process? +

Getting started is simple. Complete the contact form below to schedule a free 20-minute consultation. During this initial call, we'll discuss your needs, my therapeutic approach, and whether we're a good fit for working together. You can ask any questions about therapy, costs, process, and how I can best support your mental health goals. Learn more about the process →

What are your therapy fees? +

My therapy fees are £120 for a 60-minute individual therapy session and £130 for a 60-minute couples therapy session. Sessions longer than 60 minutes are available and priced accordingly. I work with several UK insurance providers, and many plans cover therapy sessions. During your free initial consultation, we'll discuss all payment options and insurance coverage available to you.

What should I expect in my first therapy session? +

Your first full session is a collaborative assessment. We'll explore your background, current challenges, and what brings you to therapy. I'll gather information to understand you fully and tailor my approach to your specific needs and goals. You'll also have space to ask questions about my methods and how I work. There's no pressure—this session helps us build the foundation for our therapeutic work together.

I'm not sure if therapy is right for me. Can we just talk first? +

Absolutely. That's exactly what the free 20-minute consultation is for. There's no obligation, and it's a perfect opportunity to explore whether therapy might help and whether we're a good fit. Many people find it helpful to have this conversation before committing. I'm happy to answer your questions and help you decide if now is the right time.
